Rock Rapids, Iowa — A stove was damaged in a fire on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, in Rock Rapids.

According to Rock Rapids Fire Chief Eric Borman, at about 3:15 a.m., the Rock Rapids Fire Department was called to the report of a stove fire at Beyenhof Estates Lot 54 in Rock Rapids.

When they got there, the chief says the fire department saw the home was full of smoke. He says the homeowner had evacuated the home. Firefighters ventilated the home and used their thermal imaging cameras to look for hot spots. They turned off the gas service to the home and took the burnt item outside.

Borman says no injuries were reported to people or pets.

He says somehow the stove was lit, but the homeowner said they weren’t sure how it happened. Borman told them that the gas would remain off until the Rock Rapids Municipal Utilities could do an inspection.

Chief Borman reports that both the stove and the microwave above it were damaged in the fire.

He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for about a half hour.
