Hawarden, Iowa — A camper was damaged in a fire on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, near Hawarden.
According to Hawarden Fire Chief Payne Allen, at about 11:25 p.m., the Hawarden Fire Department was called to the report of a camper fire at 1824 450th Street, three miles east of Hawarden.
When they got there, the chief says the fire department saw the air conditioning unit on top of the camper on fire.
Allen says no injuries were reported. The Ireton Fire Department also responded, per their auto-aid agreement.
He says the fire was caused by a malfunction in the unit. Chief Allen reports that the damage was moderate.
He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for about 45 minutes.
