Hartley, Iowa– A barn was destroyed in a fire on Sunday, March 10, 2019, near Hartley.
According to Hartley Fire Chief Brad Meendering, about 2:00 p.m., the Hartley Fire Department was called to the report of a barn fire at 6558 280th Street, four miles north and a half a mile west of Hartley.
The chief says the fire department saw the barn fully engulfed as they approached the scene. He says they were told there was nothing of value in the barn except some bales, so they just protected a nearby garage from catching on fire and let the barn burn down.
Meendering says no injuries were reported.
The fire department was assisted by the May City Fire Department, who brought water.
He says the cause of the fire is undetermined but thought it could possibly be electrical in nature.
He says about 18 firefighters were on scene for about three and a half hours.
