Fugitive Arrested On Felony Warrant

Sheldon, Iowa — Law enforcement officials prevailed in a hide-and-seek contest with a Sheldon fugitive this past Thursday.

According to Sheldon Police Chief Lyle Bolkema a Sheldon officer spotted 36-year old Hunter Penkwitz, and attempted to serve an arrest warrant. Bolkema says Penkwitz ran from the officer, and managed to get away.

Chief Bolkema says surveillance was set up on a trailer in north Sheldon, and officers saw Penkwitz return to the trailer. According to Bolkema nobody answered the door when officers knocked, and when officers entered the trailer they discovered nobody inside. He says that officers eventually found Penkwitz hiding under the trailer, and he was taken into custody. Bolkema says that at the time of his arrest, Penkwitz was reportedly in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, and he faces charges for those alleged crimes, as well.

According to Bolkema, as well as online court records, the warrant for Penkwitz’ arrest had been issued by Judge Nancy Whittenburg on August 1st, and it charged Penkwitz with Contempt for failing to appear on an earlier charge of Felony Domestic Abuse. That case stemmed from an incident for which Penkwitz was charged back in March of this year, according to online court documents.

O’Brien County Jail records indicate that Penkwitz was taken to the O’Brien County Jail in Primghar following his capture on the warrant. According to online court records, Penkwitz was reportedly transferred to the Dickinson County Jail in Spirit Lake to answer to a felony charge of Stalking that was filed by the Lake Park Police Department in July of this year.
