Hartley, Iowa — A garage was destroyed in a fire on Sunday, February 10, 2019, near Hartley.
According to Hartley Fire Chief Brad Meendering, about 9:40 p.m., the Hartley Fire Department was called to the report of a Morton building on fire near the home at 6663 380th Street, five miles south of Hartley and a half a mile east.
The chief says the fire department saw fire coming through the doors as they approached the scene. He says the fire was in a corner of the building. Meendering says the building was practically empty.
Meendering says no injuries were reported.
He says they originally called the Sutherland Fire Department for help but called them off once Hartley firefighters got on-scene.
He says the cause of the fire is unknown, but it started near an electrical panel so the cause was believed to be electrical in nature.
Chief Meendering reports the garage-sized Morton building was totaled in the blaze.
He says the fifteen firefighters who responded were on-scene for about two hours.
