Men From Alvord, Rushmore, Taken To Hospital After Crash

Alvord, Iowa– An Alvord man and a Rushmore, MN man were taken to the hospital after an accident near Alvord recently.

The Iowa State Patrol reports that 50-year-old Manuel Gonzalez Valdez of Alvord was driving a 2000 Chevy pickup northbound on Dove Avenue, a mile and a half west and a mile and a half north of Alvord. They tell us that 32-year-old Todd Koppen of Rushmore, MN was southbound on Dove in a 2005 Buick.

The report says that Koppen came over into the northbound lane to make a left turn into a business driveway, and was looking over in the yard of the business as he was making the turn. The vehicles collided in the northbound lane and came to rest, blocking both lanes.

Ambulances took both Gonzalez Valdez and Koppen to Avera Merrill Pioneer Hospital.

Gonzalez Valdez’s Chevy pickup sustained $8000 total in damages, and Koppen’s Buick sustained $8000 total in damages.

Koppen was charged with failure to yield upon left turn.
