Hospers, Iowa — The crash of an unknown car into a utility pole gets the blame for a power outage affecting hundreds on Monday night.
The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office reports that about 4:00 p.m. an unknown vehicle left the roadway a half of a mile south of the intersection of B40 and L26 (the county line road), east of Hospers. The deputy says the vehicle entered the east ditch, striking a utility pole with a guy wire. The report says the driver left the scene and did not report it to anyone.
MidAmerican Energy officials tell us that the guy wire became tangled with on an overhead transmission line. They tell us the ensuing power outage affected just over 500 customers, and their crew restored service at 6 p.m.
