Ice Fisherman Who Drowned In Cherokee County Farm Pond Identified

Cherokee, Iowa — Cherokee County authorities have released the identity of the ice fisherman who drowned at a rural Cherokee farm pond earlier this week.

The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office identifies the victim as 66-year-old Michael Halder of Cherokee.

Halder was reported missing early Wednesday afternoon and his body was recovered from the water of a farm pond south of Cherokee less than an hour later. Halder was reportedly pronounced dead at the scene.
