Ireton Man Faces Felony Contraband Charge And Laundry List Of Misdemeanors

Hull, Iowa — An Ireton man has been arrested on several charges after a traffic stop in Hull.

According to a criminal complaint filed with the Sioux County Clerk of Court’s Office by the Iowa State Patrol, 35-year-old Juan Topete Camacho of Ireton is accused of several drug-related charges, including felony possession in a correctional facility. He was arrested on Wednesday, April 12.

The officer’s complaints state that Topete Camacho displayed unusual driving behavior, as he was stopped at an intersection for several minutes when it was clear to go and he had the right of way. He says Topete Camacho admitted to using methamphetamine almost daily. The trooper says he was found under the influence and in possession of several baggies of a crystal substance thought to be meth. Later, at the jail, while he was being booked in, it was found that he had more meth and two glass pipes in his pants.

Topete Camacho was charged with possession of contraband in a correctional facility, a class D felony. He also faces several misdemeanor offenses including driving while barred, second offense possession of a controlled substance, OWI (first offense), interference with official acts, possession of drug paraphernalia, failure to display registration plate, fraudulent use of registration, operating without registration/plate, driving under suspension, driving while license suspended, defective tires, and failure to use seat belts.

If convicted of only the felony charge, Topete Camacho could face up to five years in prison.

He faces a preliminary hearing on the charges on Tuesday, April 18th, 2023.

At last report, he remained in the Sioux County Jail in lieu of a $10,000 bond.
