Hull Man, Sanborn 18-Year-Old Arrested, Accused Of Trying To Pass Fake Checks

Sheldon, Iowa — A Hull man and a Sanborn eighteen-year-old have been arrested on forgery charges after an incident in Sheldon.

According to a criminal complaint filed with the O’Brien County Clerk of Court’s Office by the Sheldon Police Department, 18-year-old Jesse Eldridge of Sanborn and 26-year-old Daniel Molenaar of Hull are accused of presenting fake checks at Peoples Bank in Sheldon. They were arrested last week.

In his statement, the officer states that Eldridge and Molenaar brought fake checks that appeared to be drawn on a bank in Pennsylvania to Peoples Bank with the intent to exchange them for cash. The officer says the checks had the right routing number and a name and address of a current account holder at that bank, but an inaccurate account number and a fake signature. He says Eldridge and Molenaar knew the checks were not legitimate.

Both were charged with forgery, a class D felony. If convicted, they could face up to five years in prison.

They face a preliminary hearing on Friday, May 19th.

Eldridge was released the day after he was arrested after posting a $5,000 bond. Molenaar was released on Monday, May 15th, after posting a $5,000 bond.
