Sheldon, Iowa — We now have the report from the semi rollover accident on Friday in Sheldon.
A Paullina man was taken to the hospital after the accident.
The Sheldon Police Department reports that about 9:35 a.m. on Friday, July 26, 2019, 78-year-old Jeffrey Kummerfeldt of Paullina was driving a 2008 Peterbilt semi pulling a grain trailer westbound on Sixteenth Street near Eighth Avenue in southern Sheldon.
The report says that as the vehicle was going down the road, Kummerfeldt attempted to operate the truck’s automatic tarp. He says it wasn’t actuating, so he continued to press the button and watch his mirror. The truck left the roadway beginning at the intersection with Eighth Avenue. He says he noticed the trailer was sliding down into the ditch and he began slowing to a stop, but that’s when the trailer and truck overturned and spilled the corn.
SCAT took Kummerfeldt to Sanford Sheldon Hospital.
The Peterbilt semi, owned by BFH Corporation of Paullina sustained $40,000 in damages.
Kummerfeldt was charged with failure to maintain control.
The Sheldon Fire Company, Sheldon Community Ambulance Team, and Sheldon Emergency Management assisted at the scene.
