Fire Claims Skid Loader Near Ocheyedan

Ocheyedan, Iowa — A building housing a skid loader escaped damage, but the skid loader was destroyed in a fire on Monday, June 8, 2026, near Ocheyedan.

According to Ocheyedan Fire Chief Dan Hartwig, at about 3:15 p.m., the Ocheyedan Fire Department was called to the report of a skid loader on fire in a building at 6057 180th Street, two miles south and three west of Ocheyedan.

When they got there, the chief says the fire department saw the skid loader fully engulfed. He says they used water and foam to fight the fire.

Hartwig says no injuries were reported.

He says the cause of the fire is undetermined, but it was believed to be electrical in nature.

Chief Hartwig reports that the skid loader was totaled in the blaze.

He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for about 20 minutes.
