Sheldon Man Pleads Guilty To Federal Firearms Charge

Sioux City, Iowa — A Sheldon man has pled guilty to a federal charge of possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.

According to the United States Attorney’s Office in Sioux City, 40-year-old Clinton Kreykes admitted that he was previously convicted of a felony offense, namely Burglary – 3rd degree, and was a methamphetamine user. Both prohibit a person from possessing a firearm.

Officials say evidence showed that on September 16, 2021, as part of Kreykes’ Iowa probation conditions, a compliance check was conducted at Kreykes’ camper in Sibley. The probation officer is said to have located drug paraphernalia and Kreykes was arrested. A search warrant was then issued and executed on the camper when law enforcement located loose prescription pills, a small baggy of methamphetamine, a Mossberg 20-gauge shotgun, shotgun shells, and additional items related to drug use.

Kreykes will be sentenced in US District Court in Sioux City after a preentence report is prepared. He faces a maximum sentence of 10 years’ imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, and up to three years of supervised release following any imprisonment.  There is no parole in the federal system.

Kreykes remains in custody of the United States Marshal and will remain in custody pending sentencing.

Authorities say the case was investigated by Osceola County Sheriff’s Office and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.
