Sioux Center Man Faces Drug, OWI Charges After Traffic Stop

Sioux Center, Iowa — A Sioux Center man has been arrested on OWI and drug charges after a traffic stop near Sioux Center.

According to a criminal complaint filed with the Sioux County Clerk of Court’s Office by the county sheriff’s office, 31-year-old Jonathon De Bondt of Sioux Center is accused of driving under the influence and possession of drugs. He was arrested on Friday, July 28th, 2023.

In his statement, the deputy states that during the traffic stop, De Bondt failed field sobriety tests and two law enforcement drug recognition experts concluded that he was under the influence of central nervous system simulant and cannabis. Deputies also allege De Bondt was found in possession of methamphetamine.

De Bondt was charged with third-or-subsequent-offense possession of a controlled substance, a class D felony. If convicted, De Bondt could face up to five years in prison. He was also charged with a misdemeanor count of operating while under the influence.

He faces a preliminary hearing on the charges on Tuesday, August 8th.

At last report, De Bondt remained in the Sioux County Jail in Orange City without bond.
