Three Fire Departments Extinguish Hull Area Fire

Hull, Iowa — Some corn stalk bales were destroyed and a barn was damaged in a fire near Hull on Sunday.

The Hull Fire Department and Sioux County Sheriff’s Office report that about 3:20 p.m. on Sunday, April 29, the Hull Fire Department was paged to the report of corn stalk bales on fire at 2970 Indian Avenue, three miles northeast of Hull.

When they got there, they found about 35 round corn stalk bales burning and the fire had begun to spread to a nearby barn. The Hull Fire Department at that point asked for assistance from the Boyden and Rock Valley fire departments.

No injuries were reported.

The barn was saved by the fire departments but sustained about $3,000 in damage.

Authorities say the fire is believed to have been started by hot exhaust from a nearby running tractor.

The Hull Fire Department reports that the Hull Ambulance Squad, Boyden Fire Department, Rock Valley Fire Department, and the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office assisted them at the scene of the fire.
