Sheldon, Iowa– An Akron man was taken to the hospital after an accident in Sheldon on Sunday, November 26, 2023.
The Iowa State Patrol reports that at about 10:15 a.m., 34-year-old Christopher Addleman of Akron was driving a 2008 Ford pickup southbound on Highway 60 on the Highway 18 overpass at Sheldon.
The report says that when Addleman passed over the icy overpass, his pickup lost traction, spun around, and entered the west ditch. The pickup then rolled several times before coming to a rest on its passenger side.
He was extricated from the vehicle by rescue personnel, and SCAT took Addleman to Sanford Sheldon Hospital.
Addleman’s Ford pickup was totaled, with $20,000 in damages.
Addleman was charged with failure to maintain control.

Then, less than an hour later, another accident was reported on Highway 60 near Sheldon. The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that 33-year-old Ryan Butler of Glenwood was driving a 2013 Freightliner semi northbound on Highway 60. They say 21-year-old Hunter Jensen of Ashton was southbound on Highway 60 in a Ford Explorer.
The sheriff’s office says that as Butler crossed the bridge, he lost control of the semi, which entered the median, and crossed the southbound lanes of Highway 60, where the vehicles collided. The Freightliner came to rest in the northwest ditch.
No injuries were reported in that crash, but the Freightliner received about $12,000 in damage while Jensen’s Ford received about $6,000 in damage. Butler was charged with failure to maintain control of a motor vehicle.
