Rock Rapids, Iowa — Two men were injured in a two-vehicle crash Monday morning at the intersection of Highway 9 and Indian Avenue, east of Rock Rapids.
According to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, a 2007 Chevy pickup, driven by Brent Johnson of Estherville, was eastbound on Highway 9. Deputies say a 2011 Chevy pickup, driven by Kaleb Kuyper of Rock Valley, was southbound on Indian Avenue and allegedly failed to yield to the stop sign, entering Highway 9 at highway speeds and colliding with the Johnson pickup. After the impact, both vehicles came to rest in the southeast corner of the intersection.
According to deputies both vehicles were considered a total loss, in addition to minor damage to a stop sign owned by the Iowa DOT and privately owned corn and fence line.
Kuyper was reportedly cited for failure to obey stop sign.
Minor injuries were reported by occupants from each vehicle.
The sheriff’s office was assisted at the scene by Lyon County Ambulance, Rock Rapids Fire Department, Lyon County Emergency Management, and Trackside Towing and Repair.
