Paullina, Iowa — A Paullina man has been arrested on charges related to the alleged distribution of controlled substances to minors.
According to a criminal complaint filed with the O’Brien County Clerk of Court’s Office by the county sheriff’s office, 29-year-old Johnathan Barnes of Paullina is accused of giving controlled substances and prescription drugs to his children, for which they were not prescribed. He was arrested earlier this week.
In his statement, the deputy says Barnes admitted to giving the children the prescription medications, one of which was a controlled substance. Urine samples also allegedly confirmed the presence of the drugs.
Barnes was charged with drug distribution violation to a person under 18, a class B felony, and two counts of prescription drug violation involving a minor, a class C felony. If convicted, Barnes could face up to 25 years in prison on the class B charge and 10 years on the class C charge.
He also faces two misdemeanor counts of child endangerment.
He faces a preliminary hearing on July 27th.
At last report, Barnes remained in the O’Brien County Jail in Primghar in lieu of bond.
