Two O’Brien County Residents Face Burglary, Drug Charges

Paullina, Iowa — Two people, one from Sutherland and one from Paullina face felony and misdemeanor charges after recent incidents.

According to criminal complaints filed with the O’Brien County Clerk of Court, 45-year-old Jennifer Larie Jones of Sutherland and 43-year-old Joshua Jay Mahler of Paullina face the charges in relation to incidents that occurred about a week ago.

The documents state that both Jones and Mahler were located at a residence in which several people stated that they used meth the previous night. Jones had apparently stated that she was living there. Many controlled substances and drug paraphernalia were found by law enforcement.

The pair are also accused of being in a home on Silver Avenue in which only Jones had permission, and that for a very specific purpose. While they were there, the document alleges they began gathering multiple items from the home and began putting them in Jones’s car. The items allegedly included multiple DeWalt batteries, two bank cards, and an EBT card belonging to the resident.

Both Jones and Mahler were charged with gathering where controlled substances are used and third-degree burglary, both class D felonies. Both face a court date on the burglary charges on Tuesday, August 23rd, with a preliminary hearing for both defendants on Thursday, August 25th.
