Maurice, Iowa — Two women, one from Orange City, the other from Luverne, Minnesota struck a cow near Maurice on Thursday, July 29th.
The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports, that at about 10:42 pm on Thursday, 18-year-old Jesse De Groot of Orange City was driving a 1995 Chevrolet Pickup northbound on Highway 75, two miles south of Maurice. Twenty-four-year-old Callan Sawtelle of Luverne was driving southbound on Highway 75 in a 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer. According to the report, De Groot struck a cow that was in the northbound lane of Highway 75. The impact pushed the cow into the southbound lane, where it was struck by Sawtelle.
The pickup received $6000 damage; the Trailblazer received $8000. The Cow was lost in the accident and valued at $4000.
Upon further investigation, it was discovered the cow broke through a fence and wandered onto the roadway.
No injuries were reported.
The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Le Mars Ambulance, Le Mars Fire Department, Maurice First Responders, Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa State Patrol.
