Clay County Woman Apparently Killed By Her Own Dogs

Rossie, Iowa — A Rossie woman appears to have been killed by her own dogs.

According to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, the call started on Monday, August 15, 2022, when the Clay County Communications Center received a 911 call from a subject who reported he believed he had come across a motorcycle accident. They say the caller stated he had located a female subject in the ditch but could not get close to her due to several big dogs being next to her.

They tell us that when Clay County Sheriff’s Deputies arrived, they did find a woman who was deceased. She was identified as 43-year-old Mindy Kiepe of rural Rossie. The body was taken to the Iowa State Medical Examiner’s Office in Ankeny for autopsy. On Wednesday, the State Medical Examiner ruled that Kiepe’s death was due to multiple dog bite injuries.

After further investigation, deputies believe that five Great Dane dogs owned by Kiepe had caused her death.

They say that with the assistance of a veterinarian, those five dogs were humanly euthanized.

To clarify, they say there was no motorcycle accident. This incident occurred just a short distance from her farm residence driveway.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says the Sioux Rapids Fire Department, the Royal Fire Department and Rescue Squad, The Iowa State Patrol, The Clay County Medical Examiner’s Office, and the Iowa State Medical Examiners Office assisted with the case.
