Orange City, Iowa — A Rock Valley man who was already in jail in Orange City now faces two felony counts in addition to his original charges.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office tells us 46-year-old Boby Sithavong of Rock Valley, while incarcerated in the Sioux County Jail, allegedly assaulted a correctional officer, striking the officer multiple times and causing injuries that required medical attention.

Later in the day, the Sheriff’s Office says that while deputies were assisting correctional officers with Sithavong regarding another incident in the jail, he assaulted a deputy, causing bodily injury.

Sithavong was charged with assault on persons in certain occupations-intent to inflict serious injury, a Class C felony, and assault on persons in certain occupations-bodily injury, a Class D felony.

If convicted of a Class C felony, he could face up to 10 years in prison, and a Class D felony, five years—in addition to any sentence he may receive on his original charges.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office notes that a criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
