Sheldon, Iowa — Northwest Iowa Community College volleyball will take the court for its first-ever home match tomorrow as the Thunder continue their inaugural season.

NCC hosts Northwestern JV at Sheldon High School, marking another milestone for a program launched earlier this year. We’ll have coverage on KIWA AM 1550 / FM 100.7 — pregame at 6:50 p.m., with first serve at 7.

Head coach Mark Kirlin, who joined NCC in January and brings more than two decades of coaching experience, has spent the offseason building the foundation of the new program. Karlin emphasizes a team‑first culture and player development — values he’s carried through high school and club coaching, including his work with Banzai Volleyball Club.

KIWA’s Tom Traughber spoke with Karlin during the NCC Thunder Coach’s Corner this past Saturday. He says the Thunder will open the season with nine players, a group he says has embraced a willingness to take chances.

With the inaugural season this year, we asked Karlin what would define a successful season.

You can view the full conversation with Karlin as well as athletic director Eric Francis on the latest NCC Thunder Coach’s Corner, which aired on Saturday, August 15th.
