Sheldon, Iowa — A Sheldon man was arrested early Friday, and charged with a pair of crimes.

According to court records, 33-year-old Trever McKinley Freeman of Sheldon is accused of assaulting his domestic partner while their child was present. Freeman is also accused of forcibly removing the child¬† from the mother’s arms during the assault, according to a complaint filed with the District Court. The victim reportedly told police that Freeman had punched her in the face, court documents say.

Freeman has been charged with Child Endangerment, a Simple Misdemeanor, along with 3rd Offense  Domestic Abuse Assault, which is a Class D Felony.

Court records indicate Freeman has two previous Domestic Abuse convictions, one in 2012 and another in 2013, both in Cherokee County. The previous convictions elevate the current charge to a Class D Felony. If convicted, Freeman could face up to five years in prison on that charge.
