Sheldon Man Arrested For Felony Domestic Abuse Assault

Sheldon, Iowa — A Sheldon man was arrested early Friday, and charged with a pair of crimes.

According to court records, 33-year-old Trever McKinley Freeman of Sheldon is accused of assaulting his domestic partner while their child was present. Freeman is also accused of forcibly removing the child  from the mother’s arms during the assault, according to a complaint filed with the District Court. The victim reportedly told police that Freeman had punched her in the face, court documents say.

Freeman has been charged with Child Endangerment, a Simple Misdemeanor, along with 3rd Offense  Domestic Abuse Assault, which is a Class D Felony.

Court records indicate Freeman has two previous Domestic Abuse convictions, one in 2012 and another in 2013, both in Cherokee County. The previous convictions elevate the current charge to a Class D Felony. If convicted, Freeman could face up to five years in prison on that charge.
