Two Injured In Friday Evening Three-Vehicle Crash Northwest Of Rock Valley

Rock Valley, Iowa — Two people were taken to the hospital in the aftermath of a three-vehicle collision northwest of Rock Valley early Friday evening (January 3rd).

According to a crash report from the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office, 27-year-old Stephanie VanMaanen of Doon was driving a 2013 Lincoln MKX southbound on Highway 18 and 290th Street. 22-year-old Breeana Devos of Cherokee was eastbound on 290th Street in a 2004 Chevrolet Impala, and 53-year-old Michael Sluiter of Le Mars was northbound on Highway 18 in a 2014 Chevrolet Suburban. Deputies say Devos’ Chevy entered the intersection and struck VanMaanen’s Lincoln, and the impact propelled the Lincoln into the northbound lane where it struck Sluiter’s SUV.

Authorities say Devos was transported to Hegg Memorial Health Center in Rock Valley by Rock Valley Ambulance for treatment of minor injuries. VanMaanen was taken by private to the Sanford Canton-Inwood Medical Center in Canton, South Dakota for treatment of what the report describes as minor injuries. No other injuries were reported.

Damage to Devos’ Impala was estimated at $8,000, while VanMaanen’s Lincoln sustained an estimated $9,000 in damage, and Sluiter’s Suburban reportedly sustained about $7,000 in damage.

Deputies say they cited Devos for Failure to Obey a Stop Sign.

Sioux County deputies were assisted at the scene by the Rock Valley Ambulance, Rock Valley Fire Department and Rock Valley Police Department.
