Ashton Firefighters & Local Farmer Put Out Field Fire

Ashton, Iowa — The Ashton Fire Department was called out for a fire on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, near Ashton.

According to Ashton Fire Chief Andy Gacke, at about 2:45 p.m., firefighters were called to the report of a field fire near Highway 60 and 250th Street, about a mile south of Ashton.

The chief says the farmer had been burning the fenceline and walked away. The fire spread into a field of corn stubble. A farmer with a disk came and disked firebreaks, says Gacke. He says the firefighters put out the fenceline with water.

Gacke says no injuries were reported.

Chief Gacke reports that the damage was limited to the ditch grass and corn stubble.

He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for about half an hour.

Gacke says if you’re going to light a fire, make sure you stand by and monitor the fire.
