August Saw Average Temperatures, Below Average Precipitation

Sheldon, Iowa — August 2022 was right on track for average temperature, but well below normal for precipitation.

The average high temperature in Sheldon last month was 81-degrees, which is exactly the normal average temperature for the month August. We were, however, slightly cooler than last August, when the average high temperature for August was 82.

The coolest high temperature recorded last month in Sheldon was 64, which occurred came on August 16th.

As for low temperatures, the average low for August of this year matched the average normal low of 57-degrees, while last month’s average low was 3-degrees cooler than August 2021’s 60.

The warmest low recorded in August of this year was 68, which was recorded on August 12th and August 25th.

We saw nearly 45-percent lower precipitation amounts last month than in an average August, with just 2.08-inches falling in Sheldon, compared to 3.77-inches in a normal August. Rain fell on Sheldon seven times during August, with the largest single-day rainfall totaling just 1.2-inches which was recorded on August 7th.

High and low temperature, as well as precipitation totals, are recorded at 7:00 each morning at the KIWA studios in downtown Sheldon.
