Rock Valley, Iowa — Blood donors are needed in Rock Valley this Friday, as the Community Blood Bank is making two appearances in the community.
Community Blood Bank Executive Director Ken VerSteeg says the bloodmobile will split its time on Friday between two Rock Valley locations.
Of course VerSteeg says the need for blood is continuous, but there are several reasons your donation now is important.
VerSteeg says they are also watching and keeping tabs on Hurricane Irma should that cause damage and trauma in Florida or along the eastern seaboard. He says that while the great majority of blood always stays local, they are sometimes called to help other blood banks during major disasters.
VerSteeg says that donors must be at least 17 years old (16 years old with a signed parent consent form found at cbblifeblood.org), weigh 110 pounds and be in good general health the day of the blood drive. He says they recommend that a person eat and drink plenty of fluids prior to donating. They also ask you to bring an ID. For additional information or to schedule an appointment, you can call Netherlands Reformed Christian School at 712-476-2821. He says walk-ins are always welcome.
