Expert: Combines Busy In Northwest Iowa, But Rains Still Welcome

Northwest Iowa — Some farmers in the area are just getting started combining, but some are wrapping up their soybeans already.

We talked to Iowa State University Extension & Outreach Agronomist Joel De Jong, who works out of the Plymouth County office about harvest and how it’s going.

As he predicted, he says yields are mixed in northwest Iowa, due, more than anything, to if the ground received timely rainfall.

De Jong says for the most part, soybeans are what’s being harvested at this point, with the corn mostly still to come.

De Jong tells us that while some of us have had timely rains, the subsoil moisture in many areas is still a big concern for next year.

If you have any questions, you can contact De Jong by calling the Plymouth County Extension Office.
