Sheldon, Iowa — There’s still time to get the road work done between Sheldon and Sanborn. That’s from a Department of Transportation expert.
The Iowa DOT told us in May that Highway 18 between Sheldon and Sanborn would receive an asphalt overlay this summer after bridge work east of Sheldon was done. At the time, we were told that the bridge work would be done and the asphalt work would start, both in June.
Some have expressed concerns whether there is enough time left in the construction season to finish both the bridge work and the asphalt overlay, especially since the bridge only appears to be about half finished.
Iowa DOT Transportation Planner Dakin Schultz says that while there have been delays, it is not “time to panic.” He says when the bridge is done, they’ll begin patching, shoulder work, and the milling in preparation for the asphalt overlay.
Schultz says that the road construction season in Iowa normally lasts until around Thanksgiving.
