Sibley, Iowa — An Allendorf man has been sentenced to a five-year prison term after he was found guilty of a felony offense.
The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office reports that on Monday, 27-year-old Scott Thomas Nasers of Allendorf, was found guilty of Operating While Intoxicated and/or Reckless Driving Causing Serious Injury, a Class D Felony, and Leaving the Scene of a Personal Injury Accident Resulting in Serious Injury, an Aggravated Misdemeanor.
Nasers was committed to the custody of the Director of the Department of Corrections for a term not to exceed five years on the felony count. He was also sentenced to two years for the Aggravated Misdemeanor count, with both sentences to be served concurrently. On each offense, the minimum fine and surcharge were assessed but suspended. They say Nasers was also ordered to pay victim restitution in an amount to be determined.
According to Osceola County officials, Nasers caused a crash on July 28, 2016. They say he was driving a 2006 Chrysler 300 southbound on Oriole Avenue when he ran the stop sign at the intersection of 240th Street and Oriole Avenue, two miles east of Ashton. They say he struck a 1991 Chevrolet Corsica, driven by 35-year old Natalie Hieronimus, of Ashton, that was traveling eastbound on 240th Street.
They say he then fled the scene on foot, and that all three occupants of the other vehicle were taken to Sanford Sheldon, with one of them being transferred via helicopter to a Sioux Falls hospital.
