Sioux County, Iowa — Sioux County fire departments have been busy.
A combine was damaged in a fire on Saturday, October 22, 2016 near Hawarden.
According to Hawarden Fire Chief Jon Strong, on Saturday afternoon the Hawarden Fire Department was called to the report of a combine fire at 400th Street and Cleveland Avenue, three miles east and four north of Hawarden.
The chief says the fire department saw smoke coming from the combine as they approached the scene. He says they used water to fight the fire.
Strong says no injuries were reported.
He says the cause of the fire is undetermined but the fire was in some wiring.
Chief Strong reports that there was probably a couple thousand dollars damage.
He says they only used about 50 gallons of water to fight the fire, and crews were on scene for about a half an hour.

Ireton, Iowa– Some corn was destroyed in a fire on Friday, October 21, 2016 near Ireton.
According to Ireton Fire Chief Richard Steckelberg, at 5:42 PM, the Ireton Fire Department was called to the report of a field fire at 490th and Fir Avenue, two miles south and three east of Ireton.
The chief says the fire department saw heavy smoke and flames in standing corn as they approached the scene. He says they used water, and farmers used disks to fight the fire.
Steckelberg says no injuries were reported.
He says the cause of the fire is undetermined, but is believed to have been something hot from a combine.
Chief Steckelberg reports that there was an unknown amount of damage. He says while some standing corn burned, most of the burned field was corn ground where the corn had already been harvested.
He says they used 2,000 gallons of water to fight the fire, and crews were on scene 20 minutes.
