Flu Deaths In Iowa Highest Since 2009

Statewide Iowa — This is Iowa’s worst flu season since 2009, according to the Iowa Department of Public Health.

The IDPH says 157 people have died from the flu, or flu-related illnesses in Iowa since October. The flu season isn’t over yet, and the state has already experienced the most deaths since the 2009 swine flu outbreak.

Compared to last year, more than three times as many people have succumbed to the flu, or related illnesses this year, with about 50 people losing their lives last year.

IDPH officials say it’s not too late to get a flu shot. And, they say, if you catch the flu, the shot can make the symptoms less severe, and shorten the duration of your sickness.
