West Des Moines, Iowa — Post-harvest grain marketing is becoming tougher these days, and there’s a workshop coming up at which farmers can try out some strategies.
Iowa Farm Bureau Federation (IFBF) is partnering with Iowa State University (ISU) Extension and Outreach to bring the “Winning the Game” series to 10 locations across the state. The goal of these workshops is to assist farmers in creating post-harvest marketing plans to put into practice in a no-risk environment.
Farm Bureau’s Commodity Services Manager Ed Kordick tells us about the workshops.
Kordick says that crop marketing plans and tools take on increased importance in these times of continued tight crop margins.
Kordick says that past participants not only noted the information presented as being valuable and easy to understand but most of them planned to implement the concepts they learned at the workshop.
Thanks to local sponsorships, he says the seminars are free of charge; however, space is limited. Registrations will be taken at the door, but pre-registration is appreciated for participant materials. The workshops closest to us would be the ones in Cherokee and Emmetsburg, which are both this coming Monday, August 21st. The Cherokee workshop is at 9 a.m. at Western Iowa Tech Community College, and you can sign up by calling the Cherokee County Extension office. The Emmetsburg workshop is at 6 p.m. at Iowa Lakes Community College, and you can call the Palo Alto County Extension Office to sign up. However, Kordick says pre-registration is not required for the free workshops, and you can actually just show up as well.
