O’Brien County, Iowa — An Ashton man faces a litany of charges after he led police on a chase through O’Brien County Sunday afternoon.
According to the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office, approximately 12:45 Sunday afternoon their Communications Center received a call about an erratic driver westbound on Highway 18 in the Sanborn area. Deputies say they encountered the vehicle just west of Sanborn, near Roseland Cemetery, and attempted a traffic stop. Authorities say the driver refused to stop, and attempted to elude deputies. The chase came to an end just east of the Highway 60 interchange, when Sheldon Police deployed stop sticks, flattening the tires on the suspect’s vehicle, ending the chase.
Deputies say they arrested the vehicle’s driver, 32-year old David Nachtigal of Ashton, who faces charges of: Felony Eluding; Operating While Intoxicated or Drugged, 2nd Offense; Driving While Barred; Contempt; Excessive Speed; and having an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle.
Nachtigal was transported to the O’Brien County Jail.
O’Brien County deputies were assisted by officers of the Sheldon Police Department.
