Northwest Iowa Development Seeks To Help Entire Region Thrive & Grow

Northwest Iowa — When an existing business expands or a new business locates in this area the decision to expand or locate here doesn’t happen in a vacuum, there is a collaborative agency that helps make those things a reality in northwest Iowa.

Six northwest Iowa counties, and the cities within them for Northwest Iowa Development. Sheldon Development Director Curt Strouth is the Chair of the organization, and he tells us about Northwest Iowa Development.

Subscribing to the old adage, “A rising tide lifts all ships,” Strouth says the collaborative effort benefits the entire northwest Iowa area.

The organization has been such a successful partnership that Iowa Lieutenant Governor Adam Greg called them a model for success for other parts of the state, when he spoke at the group’s annual meeting last week.

Strouth says any time a business expands or moves into the area, there are benefits that are felt throughout the entire area.

He says that, in addition to assisting existing companies to expand in the area, and attracting new businesses, NWID is also concerned about the things prospective companies, and prospective workers are concerned about, such as quality of life, education systems, recreation, housing, daycare availability, healthcare and site development such as having lots and infrastructure prepared.

Strouth says their most important job, though, is to promote what northwest Iowa has to offer as a region.

Northwest Iowa Development is comprised of developers from Lyon, Sioux, Plymouth, Cherokee, O’Brien and Osceola counties.
