O’Brien County Courthouse Centennial Is Friday

Primghar, Iowa — It’s time for the O’Brien County Courthouse 100th birthday party, which is one of the first events in Primghar during Cobblestone Days weekend this year.

O’Brien County Auditor Barb Rohwer says that construction began on the O’Brien County Courthouse in 1914, and the first business was conducted at the courthouse when public servants moved in, in 1917. She says that they don’t think that there was a dedication ceremony or celebration, probably because World War I was underway in Europe.

But there is a celebration this Friday to celebrate the building’s centennial.

O’Brien County Supervisor Nancy McDowell says that the county and its citizens are proud of the latest courthouse restoration work including new paint, lights, refinished floors, the reinforced rotunda dome, and original antiques that have been brought out of courthouse storage.

County officials welcome everyone to Friday’s celebration and ceremony.
