Tis The Season For Nuisance Letters

Sheldon, Iowa — The summer season is here, and it’s the time of year when Sheldon City officials start checking for problem properties around town.

We talked with Sheldon City Manager Sean Hutchison, who tells us how the City determines problem properties around the city.

Hutchison says most property owners are quite responsible about taking care of the nuisance problems discovered on their property, but there are others who are CLEARLY in violation of the City’s Nuisance Ordinance.  Those folks, he says, get an Abatement Notice.

Hutchison says some of the problems brought to property owners’ attention include unusually tall grass or weeds, and piles of junk that the property owner plans to take to the landfill, but maybe just hasn’t gotten around to it.  He says he hopes that people want to be good neighbors, and present their properties in the best possible light.

Hutchison says if there is a problem removing the nuisance from your property, or with removing it by the specified deadline, you should just call the City Office and talk with him about it.  He says the City will try and work with you to take care of the nuisance.
