Orange City Business Heavily Damaged In Saturday Blaze

Orange City, Iowa — Heavy damage is the result of a fire early Saturday evening in Orange City.  Fire Fighters were called shortly after 6pm Saturday to Elite Body Shop where heavy black smoke was coming from the building.  Orange City Fire Chief Denny Vander Wel says firefighters extinguished the fire, but had to tear steel off the ceiling and walls to extinguish smoldering insulation.

Vander Wel says the fire likely started inside a vehicle where an employee had been welding earlier.  The heat and smoke rose to the ceiling and started a fire in the insulation above the ceiling.  Damage is extensive with several vehicles in the shop, materials, and supplies damaged by the fire and heat.  Vander Wel had no estimate of the damage, but says it is extensive.

Vander Wel is especially grateful for all the assistance.

No injuries were reported in the blaze, and investigators are at the scene today to determine damage estimates.
