Rock Valley Emergency Responders To Teach People How To “Stop The Bleed”

Rock Valley, Iowa — The Rock Valley Fire Department and Rock Valley Ambulance Association are in the beginning stages of a new program to help save lives in Sioux County and beyond.

Fire and Ambulance officials tell us they are launching a life-saving “Stop the Bleed” training and awareness campaign. Firefighter Kyle Post and EMT Nick Van Veldhuizen are heading up the effort. Post tells us about it.

Post says they thought it would be a good thing to bring to northwest Iowa. He says many people don’t realize the impact of traumatic injuries.

He says the class teaches three main things.

Post tells us that for the next couple of months, they’re going to focus on all the emergency responders in Rock Valley, including EMTs, firefighters, and police officers. Then it will be on to the teachers and school personnel in the community, and then they’ll focus on teaching it to interested community members. After that, they’ll try to teach it to others in Sioux County and northwest Iowa.
