Upper Des Moines Gets HUD Grant To Help With Rental Assistance

Graettinger, Iowa — A grant from the federal government will help northwest Iowans pay the rent. But it hasn’t been worked out yet how that will happen.

Tanya Thelen is the housing coordinator for Upper Des Moines Opportunity — the community action agency serving two of our four northwest Iowa counties — Osceola and O’Brien — as well as ten other northwest and north-central Iowa counties. She tells us about the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) grant.

She says one thing they do know is that it will be used for rent assistance.

Thelen tells us that it will probably be a few months before they know how the grant will help families. To apply for rental assistance, you can call the Statewide Crisis Line at 1-833-739-0065.
