School Board Disposes Of Routine Agenda

Sheldon-Schools-logoSheldon, Iowa — The Sheldon Community Schools Board of Education dispatched a fairly routine list of agenda items during their regular monthly meeting held earlier this week.

The Board approved five Open Enrollment Applications; two students coming into the Sheldon District from Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn, one leaving the Sheldon District  to open enroll into the George-Little-Rock Community School District, and two moving from the Sheldon District into the Boyden-Hull Community School District.

In other action, the Board accepted a pair of resignations; Arajean DeYoung resigned from her part-time custodial post, and Kate Stoker resigned from her 2nd Grade teaching position at East Elementary.  The Board also approved a pair of employment contracts; one for Paul Meyer as Assistant Golf Coach at a salary of $2,538, and one for Levi Letsche as a high school math teacher at a preliminary salary of $40,100, which will be adjusted after contract negotiations for the next school year have been completed.

The School Board also approved an increase in breakfast and lunch prices for the 2017-18 school year.  Student breakfasts will increase by 5-cents per meal, from $1.60 to $1.65; adult breakfasts will increase by 5-cents as well, from $2.20 to $2.25; student lunches will increase by 10-cents, from $2.55 to $2.65; adult lunches will increase by 10-cents, as well, from $3.60 to $3.70; Special Milk prices will be 30-cents per carton, as will Special Juice prices.

In other action, the Board approved an agreement with Northwestern College in Orange City for student teaching during the 2017-18 school year.  They also set the date and time for the FY 2018 Budget Hearing and Certification.  That hearing will be held at 5:30 pm, during the regular monthly board meeting, which is Monday, April 10th.

The Board then went into Closed Session to discuss negotiations in regard to the 2017-18 teacher’s union contract.
