Sheldon Businessman Escorts Dad On Honor Flight

Sheldon, Iowa — A Sheldon businessman, along with his Korean War-veteran father, were among several northwest Iowans taking an Honor Flight yesterday (Tuesday) to visit their war memorials in Washington, D.C.

Kent Lohrenz, of K&J Cycle in Sheldon, made the trip as an escort for his 87-year old father Richard, who served during the Korean War. The younger Lohrenz says the day began bright and early.

Kent says he made the trip as an escort for his dad……and others.

Lohrenz says there was a large contingent from the tri-state area who took part in Tuesday’s Honor Flight.

He says there is another Honor Flight being planned for next spring.

Tuesday’s Honor Flight arrived back in Sioux Falls around 9:00 pm, and Lohrenz says the experience was a very emotional one.  His voice was choked with emotion when he related something his dad told him upon their return.

Among the other northwest Iowans who took part in Tuesday’s Honor Flight was 92-year old Glenn Gregg of Hawarden.  Gregg was escorted on the trip by his grandson, Iowa Lt. Governor Adam Gregg.

To all the veterans who were on Tuesday’s Honor Flight, thank you for your service.
