Sheldon Grad Wins Prestigious Music Award

Hannah HickmanSheldon, Iowa — A Sheldon native, who now attends the University of Minnesota, is one of just ten musicians from across the United States to win the 2017 Yamaha Young Performing Artists Award in the Classical Saxophone category.

Hannah Hickman tells us about how she became involved in the Yamaha Young Performing Artists Award competition.

Hickman said that, as a Yamaha Young Performing Artist winner, she’s been invited to attend the Music For All Summer Symposium.

She says that when she received the call notifying her of her win, she was also given some advice.

Hickman is in pretty prestigious company as a winner of this year’s award, with other winners coming from colleges like The Boston Conservatory, and The Julliard School.

Hannah Hickman is a native of Sheldon who graduated from Sheldon Community High School in 2013.  She is the daughter of King and Kecia Hickman.
