Sheldon Tree Dump Reopens After Fire

Sheldon, Iowa — A fire last weekend at the Sheldon Tree Dump forced the closure of the facility. Firefighters were called Saturday, July 11th to the report of a tree pile on fire at the tree dump, which is located on North Washington Avenue.

Firefighters utilized a City payloader to try and separate the pile, but that was unsuccessful. Fire officials said at the time that the pile could conceivably burn for several days before it burned itself out. As a result, the tree dump was closed indefinitely.

Now, officials say the tree dump has been reopened, and is ready for residents to deposit tree debris at the facility.

City officials remind the public that the tree dump is for the disposal of trees ONLY. Leaves and lawn clippings may be taken to the leaf dump, which is located at the far northwest part of Hills Park.
