Sheldon, Texas — Earlier this month the city of Sheldon, Iowa adopted the community of Sheldon, Texas and collected items desperately needed as that community began recovery efforts from the massive flooding brought on by Hurricane Harvey.
Sheldon, Iowa sent two semi-truckloads of supplies to their Texas counterparts, starting with a truck loaded with 36,000 bottles of drinking water that was desperately needed. The second truckload consisted of various supplies, non-perishable food items, clothing and more, and departed northwest Iowa last week.
Sheldon City Manager Sean Hutchison shared with KIWA, an email he received on Thursday (September 21st) from Derik Moore, who is Director of Communications for the Sheldon Independent School District in Sheldon, Texas. In that email, Moore thanks his Iowa counterparts for the second load of donations that they had received from Iowa. He also noted that the Sheldon Community School District here in Iowa, has been adopting some of the Texas district’s campuses and classrooms, and again expressed their appreciation for the generosity of the Sheldon, Iowa community to their Texas community.
Although the last semi-load of relief supplies from the Sheldon 4 Sheldon campaign has been delivered to Texas, you still have the opportunity to be a part of the Sheldon IA for Sheldon TX relief effort. Sheldon High School students are accepting cash donations at each home volleyball and football game, up through the homecoming game, September 29th. Sheldon Hy-Vee has agreed to match these donations, dollar-for-dollar, up to a maximum of $2-thousand. So when you go to the Orab home games over the next week, please donate generously.
Attached to Moore’s email to Hutchison were several photos taken by the Sheldon ISD Warehouse Manager Robert Lopez, of the arrival and unloading of the second truckload of supplies. Hutchison agreed to share those photos with KIWA, and you can find them below.
