Spirit Lake Man’s Murder Trial Moved To Storm Lake

Spirit Lake, Iowa — A change of venue has been granted in the case of a Spirit Lake man who is accused of the shooting death of his former girlfriend outside a Milford business in February of this year.

District Judge Carl Petersen has approved a change-of-venue motion in the case of 25-year-old Christian Goyne-Yarns. Petersen has moved the trial to Buena Vista County. The jury trial is set to begin at this point on December 6th, with a pretrial conference scheduled the day before the trial.

Goyne-Yarns entered a written plea of not guilty to 1st Degree Murder in Dickinson County court this past spring. He had been scheduled to go on trial for 1st Degree Murder in Dickinson County District Court at Spirit Lake back in August, but that trial was postponed pending the outcome of his competency evaluation.

He’s accused of shooting Shelby Woizeschke multiple times on February 3rd of this year, outside GrapeTree Medical Staffing in Milford, where she was employed. Police say Woizeschke was able to call 911 and identify her attacker. She died a few days later in a Sioux Falls hospital.
