The Girl Who Wore Freedom

Northwest Iowa — June 6, 1944. D-Day. The day that Allied forces began to turn the tide of WWII against Adolf Hitler and the Nazis by landing on the continent of Europe at Normandy France.

In the United States we sometimes remember that June 6th is the anniversary of D-Day, and we celebrate the milestone anniversaries. However, the people of the french villages liberated from the Nazis on D-Day celebrate EVERY year.

The 75th anniversary of the D-Day invasion happens this week, and a documentary film, titled, “The Girl Who Wore Freedom”, is nearing completion, just in time for the anniversary. The film, along with the companion website, normandystories.com, is the brainchild of first-time filmmaker Christian Taylor. Taylor talked with KIWA’s Tom Traughber about the film, and the love affair the French people continue to have with the United States, 75-years after their villages were liberated.
