Twelve SHS Students Inducted Into National Honor Society

Sheldon, Iowa — Twelve Sheldon High School students were inducted into the Sheldon Chapter of the National Honor Society in a ceremony held Tuesday evening.

To be inducted into the National Honor Society, a student must be a sophomore, junior or senior; must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0, have made voluntary contributions to the school or community, done without compensation; demonstrate leadership experience; and be of good character.

The twelve Orabs inducted into the Sheldon Chapter of the National Honor Society Tuesday evening were:  senior Alexis Crowley; juniors Elle Becker, Alayna Myer; Gracia Scheaffer; Alissa Van Beek; Hannah Van Maaren; and Makayla Van Voorst; and sophomores Hailey Honkomp; Hannah Honkomp; Heather Honkomp; Makenna Oostra; and Abigail Otto. The twelve join 22 other Orab juniors and seniors inducted into the Honor Society in previous years.

The Guest Speaker for the induction ceremony was a notable Sheldon High School alum, Dr. Jeffrey Stamp. Dr. Stamp is a 1978 Sheldon graduate who went on to work for Frito Lay, where he spent five years, and created products such as Baked Lays, Baked Tostitos, Baked Doritos, and Baked Cheetos, along with other products.

Immediately following the National Honor Society induction ceremony, a reception was held in the High School Commons.
