Sheldon, Iowa — A pair of Sheldon High School seniors each received $4-thousand to be used toward college in an awards ceremony Wednesday morning at Sheldon High School.

Each year two Sheldon seniors are selected, by committee, to receive the John N. and Irene E. Bowers Scholarships. The scholarships are funded from the annual interest earned on a large cash bequest from the Bowers’ several years ago. Each year one student who intends to pursue an education in the nursing field, and another who plans to continue their education to become a teacher, are presented with the Bowers Scholarships.

This year’s Bowers Scholarship recipients are Paige Young, who plans to study nursing at South Dakota State University in Brookings this fall, and Nick Huesman who will study education this fall at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion. Young and Huesman each received $4-thousand from this year’s Bowers Scholarship.
